Enterprises must develop and implement a holistic migration plan that aligns business drivers, fosters organizational buy-in, and handles past events to achieve true cloud transformation.

Cloud migration is essential for most businesses. Yet, despite advanced software tooling and lessons learned, enterprises often struggle to define or realize their anticipated ROI from cloud migration.

Cloud infrastructure has been almost universally adopted because it provides access to business-critical infrastructure and eliminates the hassle of on-site hosting. However, there are some risks involved. The most common problems businesses face when moving to the cloud are listed below:

  1. Complicated existing structure: Complex architectures are possible in an on-premises setting. An organization can support a wide range of databases and applications due to relatively low intra-site network latency with little or no impact on performance.

  2. Choosing an incompatible cloud service provider (CSP): Different CSP offerings have different features and benefits. For example, companies looking for a general-purpose cloud can opt for AWS, while companies that use LDAP and Active Directory can benefit from Azure’s built-in integration with these systems.

  3. Extensive migration process: In on-premises environments, the IT environment of many organizations has evolved. It is difficult to adapt infrastructure and applications to on-premise deployment in a cloud environment.
